Because I am being falsely accused of scamming people, I am taking a break from this for a while. Those of you that were refunded when I suspected the NY horses were a fraud know that I do NOT scam ANYONE! What kind of scam issues refunds? I am offended, confused, hurt, and sick for lack of sleep for many days worrying about the Orland , CA horses. I don't care what anyone says about me, I don't need emails telling me I am being slandered. I already know. And I know it's not true, and God knows it's not true. He knows I wants lives saved, not money. This is a very difficult cause I have, that I put TONS of time, effort, and hard work into. Training horses isn't always easy or fun, sometimes it hurts and is hard. But I offer that & riding lessons FREE to ANYONE that saves a horse from the kill pen and keeps it within 20 miles of me. Again, all I want is to help these horses get saved before it's too late.

Does anyone recognize this horse?
Does anyone recognize this horse? Formerly owned by one of our ERN followers who had to sell him this summer. She has since learned he was then sold again to Blake Thompson (a horse dealer and meatbuyer in Texas). He may have been lucky and sold to an individual, or unlucky. His registered name Mr. Hancock Time, AQHA. He is a 2003 QH, 16 hh. His former owner just wants to know that he is OK, and alive.
NEGLECTED PONIES ON CRAIGSLIST NEED HELP!!!
Anyone in the Los Angeles area willing/able to pose as a prospective buyer, and check this place out? The owners need to be reported for animal cruelty if they are living like this.
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/grd/3478560763.html
Just received this...
"theres a group of shetlands in el monte that need help. we got our pony from this herd. the ad is on craigslist. the people are pretty firm on prices, but the ponies need help. the pics dont show the bad conditions, but maybe you can help get the word out that they need help? they are really nice ponies, just not handled much. i think the people mean well, but arent all that smart horsewise, or able to keep their story straight. they say feet have been done, they have not been done. fronts on a few but thats all. Berrys were a foot long on the rear.
i LOVE the pony we bought. named her Blueberry Shortcake. a lovely blue roan paint"
WILD MUSTANGS
Allot of people think they are wild and crazy, but once they learn we will not hurt them, no one would guess the were once running wild. This is Mustang Ally, she was captured at 8 years old, when she was 10, she became a lesson horse for children...including me. The riding coach who owned her loved her so much because of her gentle forgiving spirit with children, that she refused to ever part with Ally, she said "You can't put a price on a priceless horse." When my little brother was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer I was 8 years old, and the coach told my parents I could have her. She was my first horse. I showed her, trail rode her, even went riding on the side of roads, won gaming play days, and she became a therapy horse for my brother as well. Give wild mustangs a chance.

Do you know horses are living longer these days?
Do you know horses are living longer these days? It used to be early to mid twenties were considered old, now they're surviving into their "thirty" somethings. In 2004 I watched a 34 year old Quarter Horse take 3rd place in cutting out of over 50 other kids at the AQHYA World Show in Texas. As a kid I rode a Appaloosa named "Rusty" who live to be 43. Remember "been there done that" horses are awesome for taking the young riders out on the trail with them attached to a pony line, building confidence, teaching riding lessons, taking beginner's to the shows, small children, therapy for sick & disabled people, almost always the favorite horse in their barn, and worth more than their weight in gold ♥
This is Shayne, who is believed to be the oldest horse in the world at 51 years. Much love and many more years for you Shayne. ♥

Looking for a horse you owned or knew?
Just thought of this, because I know horses that were leased to me then sold, riding lesson horses, horses that I liked that belonged to other's, and horses I sold before I knew about slaughter. Since there are allot of people here, lets help each other out by keeping an eye out for horses we love ending up in a kill pen. If you know a horse(s) or pony(s) you are worried may end up in a kill pen and you will save them if they are found in one, please email me a photo of the horse with their name, age, height, and your email. The photo will be placed in this album on Facebook "Report me if I'm seen in a kill pen, bad place, or rescue!" If someone matches your photo and description, they will notify you and Stop Horse Kill Pens by comment or email. Send photo's and info to: shelbyolson7494@aol.com
#232 Lazarus - 3yr White / Chestnut Paint Stallion - $350
Free training included, see below
This white and chestnut pinto stallion was said to be 3 years old. We were not allowed to evaluate this horse because the auction staff did not feel it was safe. When he came to the auction yard he was extremely hyped up... by the time he got into the auction ring he was dragging. He is a very good looking horse and is kinda unique because he is missing the tips to both his ears due to past frostbite. He is at a healthy weight but his feet are long.

In order to expand the area I offer free training & riding lessons to Kill Pen horse owner's, I need donations toward gas money for horses saved that are outside my area.
If you would like to donate, or have questions I have an American Express Blue Bird account under the email: shelbyolson7494@aol.com
If you are donating to the cost of gas for training of a certain kill pen horse you like, please include the horse's name in a message with your donation. - Thank you

Diamonds in the Rough
By Shelby Olson
In today’s economy people looking for horses can easily find their dream horse for a fraction of the horse’s actual value; if you know where to look. The internet gives people in the market for a horse the opportunity to select their new horse from hundreds to even thousands of horses for sale. Presentation such as the pictures, video, and description of a horse are crucial to the sale of a horse. For example; a horse that is well groomed, has video showing its talents, disposition, and athletic ability along with eye-catching pictures showing its full body confirmation from all angles, and a short but detailed description, will sell much faster than a horse with poor quality pictures, no video, or a short video showing only the horse running around its pasture. The ads that are most over-looked and discarded by potential buyers are ads for slaughter bound horses also called “Kill Pen Horses”. The most common reasons people will not even take the time to open one of these ads, or will dismiss an ad as soon as they see what is too commonly considered “RED FLAG” words and/or a cheap price that tell the buyer the horse(s) are kill pen horses waiting for the slaughter truck to take them to their death in a Mexico or Canada slaughterhouse. It is a common belief the horses are in the Kill Pen because of old age, dangerous, ill, lame, or a problem horse. This actually couldn’t be further from the truth. The majority of horses you will find in a kill pen are young, sane, sound, trained, kid-safe ponies & horses of all colors and breeds. Some are even registered and/or trained show horses that are still young and fierce competition in the show ring. Sadly many horses in a kill pen are put directly into the kill pen and sentenced to death by their owner who they rely on for their care, protection, and love. These horses are usually a race or show horse that is young, sound, trained, but has not won money recently or ever at all. A prime example would be Deputy Broad, a six year old race horse, who was sound, well trained, and well behaved. He lost a race July 11th 2011, and was sent to his death at the slaughterhouse by his owner July 20th 2011. His owner did not even give him the chance to find a new home. By the time a person who knew and loved this horse found out, it was July 21st 2011, one day too late to save his life. This sad story is the same one for many horses that have lost their lives at a slaughterhouse. Good, young, sound horses who just want a person to love, and love back in return, find themselves in a bad place; sentenced to death because they lost a race or show. This does NOT mean all show and race horse breeders and owners will sell, or have a horse killed because the horse lost. There are responsible, and caring breeder’s and owner’s who will pay the ransom asked to save the life of a horse they knew, previously owned, or bred and rush to the kill pen and take that horse to stay in the safety of their care forever. To see examples of horses who were saved from kill pens, search “saved from a kill pen” online, or go to my page for kill pen horses on Facebook called “Stop Horse Kill Pens”. On “Stop Horse Kill Pens” Facebook page you will see a wide variety of different types of horses saved from a kill pen and horses from many different states currently waiting for the slaughter truck that you can consider rescuing. Many people looking for horses that are against horse slaughter do not believe in paying the person who is selling the horse to slaughter or want to pay less than the kill seller is asking. Unfortunately, those people WILL NOT give horses away for free or negotiate on the price because they will get the money from the slaughter house if no one pays the price to save the horse. Harassing and contacting the kill seller is NOT a good idea; kill sellers can rip away the horses chance to be saved from the public at any given time. They own these horses and can choose to give them time to be saved by the public or send them straight to slaughter giving them NO CHANCE to be saved. Kill buyers are running a business where they make money selling these horses to slaughter or to the public; they don’t care if you or the slaughter house takes the horse, they care about the money just like every other type of business out there. True, some kill sellers will put an above meat price on certain horses. They do their homework and they know registered and colored horses can pick up a few extra dollars. Usually, they will not put a price higher than $1,000 on ANY horse regardless of color, registration, condition, or training. It is imperative, for the sake of the horses, that you are respectful to the kill seller when doing business with them; please keep your opinions to yourself. If you want to keep profit out of the hands of a killer, go to local horse auctions and out bid them on a horse(s). The best way to find the kill buyers is to ask the owners and people attending the auction if they know of any kill buyers at the auction and kindly ask them to point out, or introduce you to the kill buyer(s). Again, please be respectful of the kill buyer, and keep opinions to yourself. The purpose of this article is to reach more people looking for a horse, and inform them of the truth about horses they can and will find in a kill pen, giving more hope to the hundreds of thousands of American horses currently waiting in a kill pen for the slaughter truck, or you, the person who will come and save their life.

#221 Lollipop - 6yr Dark Buckskin Quarter Horse Mare - $400
Enumclaw, Washington
Free training included, see below.
This mare is a bit interesting as far as color and the best I can describe is a really dark buckskin. She is said to be 6 years old and a Quarter Horse. She stands about 15hh and is in good weight but her feet are due and have cracks. She was led through the auction ring and was calm. After the auction she was quiet and easy to handle. She did everything that was asked of her with no fuss.

#222 Laredo - 5yr Black / White Paint Mare - $400
Enumclaw, WA
Free training included, see below
This blue-eyed black and white pinto mare was said to be 2-3 years old, however her teeth made her look more like 5.Her name was "Stormy" and she was stated as not having been started. She is at healthy weight, however her feet are over due and chipping. She was very good with most her handling and picking up her feet, but she was fussy about her teeth. She was very easy to handle after the sale. She picked up all four feet easily and was very responsive to what was asked of her. She had no reaction to us jumping next to her, allowed a lead rope to be tossed on her, very calm and sweet. She was not wiggly while we picked a bunch of the mud chunks off of her legs and showed no inclination of bad manners. I was surprised with her condition that she seems to have been so well handled. WILL SHIP TO SLAUGHTER 1/14/2013 IF SHE IS NOT SAVED BEFORE THEN!!!
